His mother today told me not to come to any of the festivities because I had been depressed and she wants to focus on her son and not have me around as a burden.

My nephew and I are close and he and his bride to be want me to come.

I don't know what to do because I have never heard of anything like this in my life!

Oh, and the invitations were extended by my nephew and the bride to be.

Attend The Wedding Or Not?
by: Kevin (Modern Manners and Etiquette)

It is an interesting situation. Just when I think I have heard everything, I see a new set of circumstances.

I wouldn't be too offended with your nephew's mother. She simply wants to maintain a good environment for her son's wedding and you cannot blame her for that. She wants to make sure the day is special with no hiccups.

With that having been said, I think whether you attend or not have to do with your mood that day. If you are feeling down and depressed that day, you might want to skip the festivities. If you are feeling normal and want to attend, then I think you should.

I wouldn't let them decide for you. Base your decision on how you feel and you will end up doing the right thing.
