Modern Manners, Issue #002 -- Being Grateful In A Busy World
December 04, 2010
Hi,

Thank you for subscribing to the Modern Manners Guide! This newsletter will bring you the best etiquette tips, thoughts, and tools to make you socially graceful and elegant.

Each newsletter will include tips from some of the most common questions that we receive each month. If there is something that you would like to have covered in the newsletter, please let us know and we will include it in future newsletters.

And now, on to improving your etiquette and manners...

Tips For The Month

The Christmas Season has descended upon us. This is a wonderful time of year in so many aspects. There is a special feeling that comes into our hearts as we focus outward on family, friends and strangers. A good friend once said, “We must have gratitude in our hearts, for without it we have nothing.” I have always loved that, because as we express gratitude for what we have been given, we are able to appreciate so much more.

For our newsletter this month we have decided to focus on gratitude. The simple act of saying, “Thank you!” can have an amazing effect on you and those around you. I have noticed when I am grocery shopping, saying 'thank you’ to the cashier sometimes will take them off guard, but it always makes them smile. Too many times the simplest things are taken for granted, yet they are the things that need to be noticed.

This month as you are out shopping and doing all of your Christmas time festivities, take the time to say ‘thank you’ to anyone who helps you. It will have a magical effect on your heart, and theirs too.

Gift giving is a big part of this time of year too. It is never about how much a gift costs, but rather the feelings that come with the gift. Receiving gifts with a grateful heart will bring you closer to those who thought of you at this time. The giver always appreciates a warm ‘thank you’.

Life can get quite crazy at this time of year. Remembering your loved ones and those who may not have much is a special way of showing gratitude. Reach out to someone who you feel needs an extra lift. This is the way of the Christ, whom we celebrate at this time.

I wish you and yours a wonderful holiday season!

Recommended Tools

Since we are talking about gratitude this month, I wanted to recommend a superb book on the topic.

Living Life as a Thank You: The Transformative Power of Daily Gratitude

In today's busy world, it is so easy to get caught up in everything that is "wrong" in our lives. This is a great book to show how to peel back the problems of society and see that we have many things to be grateful for.

Do you have a friend or family member that is going through some challenges? This is a great gift as you can give them the gift of hope.

Enjoy!
