My daughter has been friends with this girl for the past year and does know her older sister. She has now been invited to the older sister's high school graduation party. Is she expected to give a gift, and if yes, what is appropriate?

Gift Ideas for Graduation Party
by: Kevin (Modern Manners and Etiquette)

If your daughter goes to the graduation party of her friend's sister, the gift does not need to be elaborate or large.

Some thoughtful ideas would be a book about what the sister is planning on studying at school or the work that she is planning on pursuing. If you know that they are planning on entering the workplace right away, a book about job hunting or resume writing would be appropriate.

As more of a friendly type gift, it could be a photo album showing several memories or anything that says class of 2011.

Or, if you know that they are moving out on their own, any kind of household items to get them started would be appreciated. It could be anything from kitchen items, to basic tool kits, or anything else that comes to mind.

Hope that helps!
